Bevagna is a city of pre-Roman origins, in the Province of Perugia. It was once called
Mevania; the town became famous for hemp and renowned valuable canvases, called the
bevagne, that were once produced there. The city preserves almost intact its medieval urban structure, which largely follows the plan of the old Roman town. The ancient walls that surround it, full of towers and ramparts, are interrupted only by medieval gates that allow access to the city center. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
