Ficulle is a small town in the province of Terni. It is of Etruscan origin, as the Grotte della Madonna della Maestà, believed to be rural tombs by archaeologists, would seem to prove. In Roman times, Ficulle, placed on Trajan road, which connected Rome to the north of the peninsula, became an important observation point for the Romans themselves, as evidenced by important archaeological finds, including a marble stone, dating back to the Greek age, which was dedicated to the god Mithras. The town, in its current structure, was built in medieval times: part of the walls of the thirteenth century and the ruins of some towers of the same age are still visible.
